GFWC GOOCHLAND WOMAN'S CLUB PLANTS PINWHEEL GARDEN
to raise awareness of child abuse.
Spring in Virginia always arrives with warmer weather and new splashes of color, so look for the "Blue Pinwheel Garden" that members of the GFWC Goochland Woman's Club has sponsored and planted for the past several years. This year, the "garden" is in front of the county library. The BLUE PINWHEEL is the symbol for child abuse prevention and reflects childhood hope, health, and happiness. "Blue Pinwheels for Prevention Gardens" are part of the national and Virginia campaign, "Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect," during the month of April. The GFWC Goochland Womans's Club is partnering with the Virginia Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention, the Virginia Department of Social Services, and Prevent Child Abuse Virginia to help raise awareness about the role everyone can play in valuing children and strengthening their families. Club members who planted this year left to right: Anne Hardwick, Nancy Conkwright, Rachel Parker and Dianne Pollock (not pictured)
MURDER MYSTERY DINNER THEATER AT TANGLEWOOD ORDINARY
The Goochland Woman's Club was thoroughly entertained by the troupe from Murder Mysteries Will Travel as they played out the scenes of an exclusive flower show, to be judged by the Earl, who ends up murdered before finishing his tea and biscuits. Who did it? Finding out was so much fun!

Goochland Woman's Club Plants Pinwheel Garden
Project Raises Awareness of Child Abuse Prevention
Spring in Virginia always arrives with warmer weather and new splashes of "color," so look for . . . "Roses are Red," and "Pinwheels are Blue" - as in the "Blue Pinwheel Garden" that members of the GFWC Goochland Woman's Club has sponsored and planted for the past several years at the Goochland Fellowship and Family Services house on River Road in the Courthouse. The BLUE PINWHEEL is the symbol for child abuse prevention and reflects childhood hope, health, and happiness.

The GFWC Goochland Womans's Club is partnering with the Virginia Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention, the Virginia Department of Social Services, and Prevent Child Abuse Virginia to help raise awareness about the role everyone can play in valuing children and strengthening their families.
Statistics report that thousands of Virginia children suffer abuse or neglect every year. In FY 2013, there were 51,346 children reported as possible victims of abuse and/or neglect. The Virginia Department of Social Services found that 6,205 children were maltreated, and 29 of these children even died as a result of the abuse and/or neglect.
These grim statistics serve as reminders that no one can afford to look the other way. Everyone can become more aware of guarding the safety and health of our children and look for ways to make a difference in the lives of our children. Meaningful involvement by parents, concerned individuals, and participation in organizations and efforts to support families will all make our community a better place for our children to grow and thrive.
For more information on how to keep children safe from abuse and neglect, visit www.dss.virginia.gov or www.preventchildabuseva.org or call the Virginia Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-552-7096.

Goochland Woman’s Club - 2012 Habitat for Humanity Project*
When the Goochland Habitat for Humanity announced they would be building their 18th Home in 2012, the ladies of the Goochland Woman’s Club stepped in to help by offering to furnish and decorate the bedroom of the homeowner’s 14 year old son.
To earn money for this project the Club set up a booth at the J Sargeant Reynolds Spring Garden Fest. Members hand crafted garden art, painted flower pots, divided our house and garden plants and made aprons, notecards and other garden related crafts. This was a true labor of love, and a huge success.
We are now busy gathering furnishings for the room, which is being designed around the young boy’s favorite basketball team, The Chicago Bulls. The Home will be finished and ready for occupancy some time the end of September - first of October. We will be posting additional photos of the room once completed. For now we’d like for you to meet the (Timberlake) family and see the room in progress of being built.
