GFWC GOOCHLAND WOMAN'S CLUB
WHAT IS THE GFWC GOOCHLAND WOMAN'S CLUB?
The GFWC Goochland Woman's Club is a service club open to women of all ages. The GWC is a member of the GFWC Lee District, GFWC Virginia and the General Federation of Women's Clubs.Through GFWC and our partners we support national and international initiatives such as Shot@Life, Operation Smile, Canine Companions, Heifer International, Prevent Child Abuse America, HOBY, Unicef End Trafficking, March of Dimes, and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
The Goochland Woman’s Club continues working in their community in the following areas:
ARTS and CULTURE- to provide a framework for clubwomen to pursue a variety of artistic interests while educating their communities about the important role art plays in our lives.
ENVIRONMENT -promotes the protection of the environment and the conservation of
natural resources.
EDUCATION AND LIBRARIES -supports and encourages all areas of education. Recognizing teachers during American
Education Week and librarians during Library Week. Encourages members to read to children and to become literacy tutors. GIves The Mabel Behrens Goochland HS college scholarship, and works heavily with the YMCA Bright Beginnings program.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH - to improve the quality of life for the ill, elderly, handicapped, homeless and the substance
abused by the support of such programs as Prevent Child Abuse Virginia, Goochland Free Clinic, Canine Companions, and
Habitat for Humanity.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS - hopes to educate women in the areas of breast cancer, heart health, Osteoarthritis, immunizations, and healthy lifestyles.
PUBLIC ISSUES - promote citizenship, historic preservation and veteran’s affairs. The GWC is active with the USO. Educates women to fire and vehicle safety.
WHO BELONGS TO THE GWC?
The GFWC Goochland Woman's Club is made up of women with a common goal of helping those in need in the community and state while enjoying each other's company,attending meetings, working on projects and participating in a variety of social, civic and educational activities.
HOW DOES ONE BECOME A MEMBER?
Women interested in joining The GFWC Goochland Woman's Club apply for membership by contacting a member of the club and attending two meetings. The Executive Board receives applicants to membership in accordance with the club bylaws. If you are interested please use the contact form below and email the club. Interested women are encouraged to email and visit a club meeting. Annual dues are $60 with a $10 Initiation fee.
WHEN AND WHERE?
The GFWC Goochland Woman's Club meets monthly on the fourth Monday, from September through May, at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church Parish Hall. A typical meeting includes business, a program and refreshments.
